Brahma rooster (silver partridge laced)

Basje meant freedom for us. His life led his life in freedom, together with his hens he lived in our garden where he could go wherever he wanted. Except for the periodes minister Veerman decided all poultry should be 'opgehokt' (put into a shed where no contact with wild birds is possible).

Courtly' as he was, he always was the first to eat our restovers and seeds out of our hands. His favorite place to sit and order his feathers was at our kitchendoor, while lying in wait for snacks. And that also was the very place where we found him after a sudden dead.

 There was and will be only one rooster like Basje.
